Siraj Ud Daulah-The Nawab Of Bengal

Siraj-Ud-Daulah was a Mughal king who became the Nawab (ruler) of Bengal in AD 1756 at the age of 27. He succeeded Ali Vardi Khan, his maternal grandfather to the throne.
Siraj-Ud-Daulah fought against the British to wipe them out from the soil of Bengal. The British force captured Kolkata, a part of his province, and destroyed its fortifications a few weeks after he succeeded to the throne. The Nawab proceeded against the British, recaptured Kolkata, and imprisoned some of the British in the Black Hole of Kolkata. Next year, Robert Clive, a governor general of British India, attacked Kolkata again and a fierce battle famous as the Battle of Plassey, was fought between the Nawab and the British force. Siraj-Ud-daulah lost the battle. He was betrayed by the treachery of his former army chief Mir Jafar and was killed at his capital, Murshidabad in West Bengal on July 2, 1757. The Battle of Plassey became a stepping stone for the British to put their control over the administration of Bengal.
