The Myth Of the Aryan Invasion Part3

And what of the real intentions of these 19th Century western Gentlemen still so greatly revered by several leading Indian academics? In a marvelous book "THE INVASION THAT NEVER WAS" by Michael Danino/Sujata Nahar, published by THE MOTHER'S INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH in Delhi (1996), the best known icon of 19th Century Indology Max Muller was effectively demolished in his own words; hoisted on his own petard, as it were. I quote directly from Michael Danino: "Even the celebrated Max Muller (whose research work, interestingly, was commissioned and generously paid for by the East India Company after he had been engaged by Macaulay), wrote to his wife ((ref. Friedrich Max Muller, Life and Letters, Vol.1; London: Longmans, 1902, p328): 'This edition of mine and the translation of the Veda, will hereafter tell to a great extent on the fate of India and on the growth of millions of souls in that country. It is the root of their religion and to show them what The root is, I feel sure, is the only way of uprooting all that has Sprung from it during the last three thousand years." So? The seemingly "impartial" scholar was in truth a Macaulayite tool for the accomplishment of grandiose imperial aims...Sri Aurobindo observed, 'it did not take long to see that the Vedic indications of a racial division between Aryans and Dasyus and the identification of the latter with the indigenous Indians were of a far flimsier character than I had supposed.'" (ref: Ibid., p 36). 'This division was "a conjecture supported only by other conjectures ...... a myth of the philologists". (ref: Ibid., p 40). "Sri Aurobindo added. 'The indications in the Veda on which this theory of a recent Aryan invasion is built, are very scanty in quantity and uncertain in their significance. There is no actual mention of such an invasion'" (ref: Ibid., p. 24). "....read more

The Myth Of The Aryan Invasion-Part2

The Myth of Aryan Invasions of Indiaby M. Lal Goel, PhDUniversity of West Floridalgoel@uwf.edu
The often perceived and frequently quoted racial division in India between the fairer Aryan North and the darker Dravidian South is pernicious and dangerous. The British gave currency to this view of racial divide in India. It was part of their "divide and rule" strategy. The Northern people in India got especially sucked into this interpretation of history. It made the "Aryan" northerners appear racially closer to the white races of Europe. This viewpoint is also popular in Sri Lanka, where the Singhalese majority believe that they are descendants of Aryans from the North of India and that Tamils of Sri Lanka are not.
New interpretations of ancient Indian history cast a serious doubt that Aryans entered India from the outside, and that the Dravidian people were the conquered races, and further that the Dravidians were pushed down south by the invading Aryans.
Sri Aurobindo debunked this theory of a racial division between the North and South in India. Sri Aurobindo is the great light that blazed across the Indian horizon during the first half of the twentieth century (1872-1950). He was a historian, a philosopher, a poet, a mystic, a yogi, a freedom fighter, and a scholar. Sri Aurobindo has written commentaries on the Vedas, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. Therefore, when Sri Aurobindo speaks, we listen...read+

The Myth Of The Aryan Invasion-Part1

Aryans and TamiliansBy Swami Vivekananda
From: The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda , Volume 4 , Pg.296http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.in...ol_4_frame.htm/
"Our archaeologists' dreams of India being full of dark-eyed aborigines, and the bright Aryans came from - the Lord knows where. According to some, they came from Central Tibet; others will have it that they came from Central Asia. There are patriotic Englishmen who think that the Aryans were all red haired. Others, according to their idea, think that they were all black-haired. If the writer happens to be a black-haired man, the Aryans were all black-haired. Of late, there was an attempt made to prove that the Aryans lived on Swiss lake. I should not be sorry if they had been all drowned there, theory and all. Some say now that they lived at the North Pole. Lord bless the Aryans and their habitations! As for as the truth of these theories, there is notone word in our scriptures, not one, to prove that the Aryans came from anywhere outside of India, and in ancient India was included Afghanistan. There it ends..."
"And the theory that the Shudra caste were all non-Aryans and they were a multitude, is equally illogical and irrational. It could not have been possible in those days that a few Aryans settled and lived there with a hundred thousand slaves at their command. The slaves would have eaten them up, made chutney of them in five minutes. The only explanation is to be found in the Mahabharat, which says that in the beginning of the Satya Yoga there was only one caste, the Brahmins, and then by differences of occupations they went on dividing themselves into different castes, and that is the only true and rational explanation that has been given. And in the coming Satya Yuga all other castes will have to go back to the same condition."

The True Meaning Of Caste System

If we have thus to transform the Indian mind's attitude to the caste system, we must begin not from a mere social or humanitarian angle but from a spiritual perspective. And to do so we have to separate the from the 'spirit' and go back to the seed-ideas in the Purushasukta of the Vedas from which the Caturvarna was born, to see if we can combine the elements to form a novel and innovative synthesis.
The four orders of the Caturvarna figuratively sprang from the limbs of the creative deity -- the cosmic godhead, from his head, arms, thighs and feet. Ordinarily this is construed to indicate that Brahmins were pure men of knowledge, Kshatriyas were men of power, Vaishyas were the producers and support of the society and the Sudras were its servants. But this is a too superficial reading of the imagery which actually tried to depict how the Divine expresses itself in man and his myriad activities -- the Divine as knowledge in man, the Divine as Power, the Divine as production, enjoyment and mutuality and the Divine as service, obedience and work. These divisions correspond to the four cosmic principles whose efflorescence need the help of the four great powers of the Divine Shakti -
(a) Wisdom that conceives the order and principle of things and manifested by Maheswari, Goddess of supreme knowledge;
(b) The Power that sanctions, upholds and enforces it, aided by Mahakali, Goddess of the supreme strength;
(c) The Harmony that creates the arrangements of its parts with the help of Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of love and beauty; and
(d) The Work that carries out what the rest directs with the sanction of Mahasaraswati, Goddess of skill and perfection. *

These four principles justified the four-fold order of the society. They can also be used to justify and build up an ideal four-fold personality as the same Reality expresses itself equally in man and the collectivity. Sri Aurobindo describes that the very nature of our life is such that it is at every moment subject to the influence of these four principles at work -'Our life itself is at once an Inquiry after truth and knowledge, a struggle and battle of our will with ourselves and surrounding forces, a constant production, adaptation, application of skill to the material of life and a sacrifice and service.' K.D Sethna (Amal Kiran) Vision

New Light on Ancient IndiaThe Historical Vision of K.D. Sethna
Sri Aurobindo, the seer of modern India, blamed new trails in several worlds of human enterprise and had followers of signal eminence in many of them. Some made their mark in more than one sphere of activity. Integral Yoga and Overhead Poetry are two such areas in which a number of luminaries have left their mark. No follower of Sri Aurobindo, however, has not only penetrated these areas but also ventured into territories such as science and history. Here is where K.D. Sethna, or Amal Kiran as he was named by his Master, stands distinctly apart. This remarkable mind has taken virtually all knowledge for its domain and the clear ray of his piercing insight has probed not only profound issues of philosophy, such as the question of free-will or the spirituality of the future, but has investigated Einsteinian physics, detected Shakespeare's mysterious Dark Lady, Mr. W.H. and the Rival Poet, published 750 pages of poetry and followed the approach of Sri Aurobindo in plumbing the riches of European literature and the practice of Integral Yoga. However, that which is unique is his signal contribution to historiography. Here I shall not go into his remarkable investigations into Jewish history to fix the date of the Exodus, or into the question of the Immaculate Conception which patiently awaits a publisher of vision and courage. My attempt will be to highlight Amal Kiran's deep-delving reconstruction of ancient Indian history...READ+

Ancient Bharat

It is not armlets that adorn a man, nor necklaces all cramped with moon bright pearls, nor baths, nor ointments, nor arranged curls. 'Tis art of excellent speech that only adorn him: Jewels perish, garlands fade, this only abides and glittery undecayed ." Bhartrihari (Nitishatakam, 19). Translated by Sri Aurobindo
SRI AUROBINDO FOUNDATION FOR INDIAN CULTURE

The Essential Work"Out of this awakening vision and impulse the Indian renaissance is arising, and that must determine its future tendency. The recovery of the old spiritual knowledge and experience in all its splendour, depth and fullness is its first, most essential work; the flowing of this spirituality into new forms of philosophy, literature, art, science and critical knowledge is the second; an original dealing with modern problems in the light of Indian spirit and the endeavour to formulate a greater synthesis of a spiritualised society is the third and most difficult. Its success on these three lines will be the measure of its help to the future of humanity."
This in essence is the objective of the Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Indian Culture inspired by the above quotations from Sri Aurobindo.

Once Upon a Time..

"We had wonderful civilizations like those that left a sort of occult memory, for example, of a continent joining India to Africa and of which no traces remain... unless some human races are the remnants of that civilization."
We said 'curiously enough' because was Mother referring to Lemuria or to Gondwanaland? But the megacontinent Gondwanaland, which, according to the theory of continental drift, once included Australia, India, Africa, South America and Antartica, drifted apart in the Jurassic (mid-Mesozoic) or some 180 million years ago; while the separation of peninsular India from Southern Africa, rifting Lemuria, an elongated land mass that formerly occupied the Indo-Madagascan area, is supposed to have occurred early in the Tertiary, which, say geologists, began 65 million years ago. In any case, they also say that 'man' appeared on earth only in the early Quaternary, that is, two or three million years ago. So!!! Who really knows what happened ? And when ? The paleontologists digging up fossils and taking their time about it? Or the occultists who are able to establish a direct contact with the region where earth's memories are recorded? We do not know. Will-can-some earth scientists enlighten us?
